What this is a case of is one of the more simple examples of a state defending its interests in recent years. As that wonderful Krauthammer article said, the differences between the two sides in the way they carry out their operations and the reasons for Israel’s actions are unusually clear-cut and acceptable. I think a very large part of this is due to media spin; if you show enough images of suffering Palestinians and not enough of dying Israelis, people begin to have warped ideas of the perpetrator.
